THE MAN BEHIND THE CAKE

Harlem roots.
Southern heart.
New York story.

Before the towering cakes and the lines around the block, there was a grandmother’s kitchen.

Raven P. D. Dennis III—known to Cake Nation as Cake Man Raven—found his inspiration watching his grandmother bake in Lynchburg, South Carolina. That early love of baking grew into a career defined by Southern red velvet and an imagination that thinks far beyond the cake stand.1

After years of baking from his Harlem apartment, he opened Cake Man Raven Confectionery in Brooklyn in 2000. The Fulton Street shop became a gathering place for people who came for a slice and found a community.2

2003

A New York landmark, reimagined in cake. For Columbia University’s 250th anniversary, Raven created a 13-foot-tall red velvet replica of Low Library.3

Today, the invitation is personal: help preserve the stories behind the celebrations. The next chapter needs the people who were there.

KEEP IT PERSONAL
